Grr . . .

So here's my rant for the week - last night in fiction writing we discussed my story - the one that I turned in may be familiar to so of you - it's the one with the guy that's dealing with the fact that he believes he's gay and he doesn't know how to tell his Christian friends about it.

I expected to be critiqued on my writing skills - what worked and what didn't work. I've had the story PUBLISHED for goodness sakes - what I wanted was feedback on how to improve the story.

What I got was the majority of the class getting on my case because, "Why would the guy that's gay hang out with Christian fundamentalists." and, "He needs friends that are accepting of him - not Christians that judge everyone." Etc . . .

To say the least - I was hurt, ticked off and upset by the end of class. Attack my story all you want - but when you attack my beliefs! Grr!!!

So I called Jen on the drive home and talked to my mom when I got home, and I'm currently in the process of looking into another school. No - I'm not going off the deep-end here, but I need to know what else is out there. I want to be a CHRISTAN WRITER and I feel like I'm not going to be able to achieve that in such a liberal school. So if I'm not going to get out the the experience what I was expecting - maybe I'm better off somewhere else.

Thus far, I've found 2 schools (one in Cali and one in Texas) that are Christian schools with grad programs in English with concentrations in writing and teaching. So I'm currently researching both of them. We'll see what happens.

Prayer is appreciated as I embark on my latest adventure. I want a school and school environment that will grow me as a writer and as a Christian, and so far - Chatham has been the opposite of that. So while I'm not giving up on Chatham, I am considering the possibility that I'll be transferring to somewhere more conservative. We'll see.
