Mini-rant about fanfiction

Can I take a minute from our post-NCIS-finale-freak-outs to talk about something that irks me? (And is in no way directed to anyone on my f-list)

When I write fanfiction - google is my best friend. Check a character's name, check character history, look for plot lines, check spelling of strange words used in the show, etc. I'm a big believe that you can find most things with a good google search. I always look up the things that I can get a simple answer to - it just takes a second, and I can be sure I'm calling the right character by the right name.

WHY IS IT THAT PEOPLE CANNOT SPELL CHARACTER NAMES CORRECTLY IN FANFICS ALL OF A SUDDEN?

You say you LOVE the character. You say you LOVE the show. SPELL THINGS CORRECTLY!!!

For goodness sakes - it's CALLEN, NOT CALLON.
And it's KENSI, NOT KENZI.
And ZIVA, NOT ZEVA.

I don't care who you are or what language is your first language ... I'll overlook a lot if fanfiction ... but it's the CHARACTER'S NAME! You're not using a nickname (such as Ziver), you're just misspelling a name! A MAIN character that you say you LOVE. WHAT THE HECK PEOPLE!!!!

Yes! I read a KENZI one the other day and it squicked me EVERYTIME her name was typed.

Course, my pet peeve that's a corollary to that is how proud some people are of not having a beta. If a) English isn't your first language or b) you're under the age of 18 and haven't graduated high school yet, consider getting another set of eyes. Does writing a world of good. (and I don't say that just because I've had to proofread everything my PhD bosses and PhD bound students write, yeesh).
